Welcome to Feathered Friends Rescue. I am a no kill not for profit exotic bird rescue.

After getting my first cockatiel I fell in love with exotic birds and after much thought I decided to go into rescuing and rehabilitating exotic birds of all species. I work from home so I can donate a large amount of my personal time to creating a healthy, safe, and consistent environment for the birds in my care.

My goal is to rehabilitate and find a great match for my birds in a home that is suitable to their species and temperament.  Not all birds can be placed in a home setting and these birds are given sanctuary by myself, or in another appropriate long term sanctuary.

Whether you are looking to adopt, surrender or find rehabilitation for your bird, Feathered Friends Rescue is here to help.

Reasons people surrender their exotic birds:

Noise Level - Some species can be VERY loud. According to the San Diego Zoo, a      Moluccan Cockatoo's noise level has been recorded at 135 decibels (db). For comparison, a 747 Jumbo Jet produces 140db and human ear damage begins just above 100db

Behavior Problems - This includes but is not limited to: biting, screaming, self mutilation, etc.

Too Messy - Most exotic birds are very messy. Have you heard the expression "Dirty as a Bird" ?

Expensive - Not only are there the initial costs of the bird and cage but there are also recurring costs such as routine vet visits, food, toys, cages, litter, etc. For such a small pet, birds can very quickly cost you a lot of money.

Others Complaining - This includes neighbors, spouses, roommates, children, etc.

Lifestyle Changes - These include marriage, divorce, having a baby, moving, retirement, going away to college, etc

Changing residences - Moving into a condo, apartment, retirement home, assisted living home etc.

Lost Interest - Some people just get bored with a parrot. Don't buy a parrot for a child or a teenager unless you are willing to take over its care. Always  remember exotic birds have incredibly long life spans. .

Health Reasons - Primary caretaker illness, allergies, or death. If you are a person with pet allergies do NOT assume you will not be allergic to your pet bird. Birds have lots of dander, and some species, such as cockatoo's and cockatiels create a ton of dust and dander..

Too many birds - Some people turn into bird collectors. Before they know it, they have collected more birds than they can care for.

Lack of Time - Birds take a lot of it!

Unwise choice in your species of Exotic Bird- there are many different species of exotic pet birds. The care needs and temperment vary greatly per species and many times a person will pick their bird by coloring, size, and look without regard to what those tendencies and needs may be.
