This is a list of natural remedies that are safe and helpful for parrots!

 

Aloe Vera:  It is good for dry, irritated or wounded skin. It is also very helpful in soothing the skin of birds who engage in feather picking.

 

Aloe Vera Detox: ( Aloe detox by Naturide) I have seen this work in the place of  antibiotics for many birds. Also is great for clearing out a sick birds system of pollutants.

 

Echinacea: It has been said that it is the natural equivalent of penicillin.  The recommended dose for a parrot is 2.5 drops per kg of body weight or 5 drops per cup of water. Use for two weeks.

 

Alfalfa: good for allergies, may be helpful for birds who pluck their feathers due to allergies, removes toxins from the blood, reduces acid levels, increases appetite, and helps birds assimilate calcium, protein and other vitamins and minerals.

 

Cayenne:  helps sinus congestion.

 

Chamomile: very safe way to help calm stressed out birds.

 

Dandelion: useful for arthritis and discomfort from old age. Helps the liver and digestive

organs.

 

Eyebright: A strong tea of eyebright will help any animal that is having issues and discomfort from their eyes.

  

Ginger: excellent for motion sickness. Mix with Chamomille and valerian when you must travel with your bird. Very calming and prevents disorientation from driving.

 

Kava Kava:  sedative and tranquilizer, has proven effective in birds with anxiety issues and for feather plucking.

 

Milk Thistle: this is the main ingredient in aloe detoxes. And is helpful for any liver issues and for cleaning toxins and allergins from your birds systems such as unwanted food dyes and additives.

 

Passion Flower: gentle sedative, parrots that engage in feather plucking usually respond favorably to passion flower, kava kava, & st johns wart. Hyperactive parrots can be aided with passion flower.

 

St Johns Wart: anti-depressant. It may help with feather plucking, it is also helpful with birds who are having depression issues from loss of owners, mates, or a bonded cage mate. (Don’t use if your bird spends a lot of time in natural sunlight outdoors. Studies in sheep that have consumed large amounts of st johns wart showed signs of phottoxisity.)

 

Kelp: have anit-fungal, anti bacterial, and anti tumor properties. Powerful immunostymulator.

 

Valerian: sedative and pain reliever.

 

Wheat Grass: This is a wonderful article on useing wheatgrass with parrots. It is high in many wonderful nutrients and it is easy to grow!  Very Good for Parrots!!
