My adoption policies are quite simple. You must fill out an adoption application and a bird experiance sheet, followed by an Adoption Contract and a home/cage check!

The steps for adoption:
  1. Adoption application and Parrot Experiance Sheet
  2. Adoption Contract
  3. Home/cage check

When emailing or calling me for a possible adoption please have filled out and emailed back to me an adoption application. The contract is below for you to review. You will fill that out in person when you come to adopt your bird.

Adoption Application: AdoptionApplication.doc

Adoption Contract: adoption_contract.doc

I am not  a bird seller, but the care of birds can be very expensive; especially for rescue's who are constantly taking in emergency cases. These are the adoption fee's for birds in my care. These are only the base fee's, the new owner will also be required to pay for all of the veterinarian costs occured by a specific bird in this rescue, the new owner will be provided reciepts for vet care if any was needed.

ALL First time bird owners will be required to purchase a book on caring for their new pet bird, that is as species specific as possible, as well as people wanting to adopt a species of bird they have never had before. ( An example would be "The Cockatiel Handbook for someone wanting to adopt a cockatiel who has never owned one before.)

Also most people will be required to spend time in the shelter playing and caring for the bird they'd like to adopt before being allowed to complete the adoption process and take their new companion home. This is to ensure the birds long term well-being and a great fit into their new family.

Most birds become displaced and homeless, or are inadvertantly mistreated due to people not knowing better and I am going to do my part in making sure that this does not happen twice to the same bird by makeing sure my adopters have the tools in place to become educated and commited owners to the rescue birds in my care.

If you purchase a book from me I will be able to look that up, if you buy one from another store you will need to have it with you when your bird is placed with you.

Not all birds up for adoption here qualify for being placed in the home of a first time bird owner. This is to ensure proper placement for the bird, as well as make sure any new owner has a bird that fits with their experiance level, and their needs.

Nisco: Umbrella Cockatoo

Nemo: Chestnut-Fronted Severe Macaw  (Adopted)

Nemo is a wonderful female severe. She is very plucked right now, but she is growing her feathers back in so I do not believe that she has permanent follicle damage at this point in time. She has not been plucking since arriving here. Nemo was on a very, very poor diet when she came in and I believe this is what contributed to her poor feathering. Nemo is a bit protective of her human companion, and she is definatly a one person bird. She does NOT like children, so she will not be adopted out to a family with small children living in the home, nor will I place her with a family that will be wanting children in the future. She is 14 years old, so she has a long life ahead of her. Nemo will be quite aggressive to her new owner for a short period of time when she is rehomes, so you will have to be ready to earn her trust and friendship. She spent the first four days at my home trying to eat me through the cage bars, and them she took a sudden turn to being my best friend a most loving flock-mate.(Although she did go through a period of testing me to see who the dominant one in the flock would be)  She is not bird aggressive so other birds in the home would be fine by her.

David and Simmie: Cockatiels ( ADOPTED)

Simmie                          David (lower left) Simmie (Top Right)

Both Simmie and David are approximately 7 years old and hand tame (outside of cage only). They have come a long way and are now able to be good pets for somebody.

When David first arrived he would try to eat you through his cage bars as he had never been handled and given the care and attention that he needed.  Simmie came in with Simon and both of them were extremely malnourished.  Simmie has bonded with David so they must be placed in the same home..

David has the softest feathered coat you will ever feel on a bird. It is like down.

David loves to sing and mimic sounds and whistles. He can be quite vocal. He loves to explore different areas of your house with you while you clean. He can be a bit cranky, but I have come to consider this a part of his "charm." David is also very interactive and inquisitive, while Simmie likes to follow David around, sit on your shoulder and is pretty quiet. Simmie is very sweet and a bit timid

Their adoption fee is $25.00

I recomend these books when adopting a cockatiel:

Sissy and Taz: Parakeets
Sissy and Taz are really wonderful, active, happy and healthy keets. They are both males, and are very close to one another. The are semi-tame, and under 2 years of age. With a little work they could both make very sweet hand-tame pet parakeets.

Thier adoption fee is $20.00

Peanut: Parrolet

Peanut is a three year female parrolet. She is  a surrendered retired breeder. She cannot be allowed to breed anymore as it could be a danger to her health. She is semi-tame, but with some work and attention she will tame down nicely and make someone a wonderful pet. When she came into the rescue she had never been handled before, but she is coming along nicely. She is very sweet, but is very timid..

Her recommended adoption fee is $50.00
